Ball and Gate Valves
Ball and Gate Valves Buying Guide
Ball valves and gate valves are the shut-off workhorses of any plumbing or mechanical system. MEKCO Supply stocks them in every common connection type — sweat/solder, press, push-fit, PEX, F1960 expansion, compression and threaded — plus gas ball valves, transition ball valves, mixing valves, pressure-reducing valves, isolation pump flanges and wall hydrants, from WOODFORD, WATTS, ZURN, Apollo and our own 5M line.
Ball valve or gate valve?
Ball valves give a quarter-turn, full-port shut-off with a visible handle position and seal reliably after years of sitting open — which is why they have largely displaced gate valves in new work. Gate valves still appear in larger-diameter and legacy service applications where a slow, non-throttling close is wanted.
Match the connection to the system you are working in, not just the size: press and expansion connections save enormous labour on repetitive work but require the matching tool, while sweat remains the lowest-cost option if you are already soldering. For gas, use only valves specifically listed for fuel gas service.
Pressure-reducing and mixing valves
PRVs protect fixtures and appliances where incoming municipal pressure runs high, and thermostatic mixing valves temper domestic hot water to a safe delivery temperature. Both are stocked alongside the repair kits and cartridges they take.
