Press or solder?

Press fittings have taken over large parts of commercial and repipe work for one reason — no flame. A pressed joint takes seconds, needs no fire watch, and can be made on a wet line, which is why it wins on occupied buildings and tight ceiling spaces. The tradeoff is tool cost and jaw sizes, and every press system uses its own sealing element, so confirm the fitting matches your tool before ordering.

Sweat fittings remain the lowest material cost and are still the standard for new residential rough-in where a torch is practical. Use lead-free solder and flux on potable lines, and remember that DWV copper fittings are thinner-walled and are not rated for pressure service.

Sizing and availability

Copper is sold by nominal size, which is not the tube's outside diameter — a 1/2" fitting takes 5/8" OD tube. If you are matching to existing pipe, measure the OD and let us convert it. Stocked at our Richmond Hill counter with contractor pricing and GTA delivery.
