Crimp PEX Fittings

How crimp connections work

A crimp connection uses an insert fitting that goes inside the tubing, with a copper ring compressed over the outside by a crimp tool. It is the ASTM F1807 / F2159 method, and it is the most economical way to run PEX because the fittings and tool are inexpensive and the technique is quick to learn.

All PEX tubing for potable water in Canada must be certified to CSA B137.5, which includes chlorine-resistance testing. Two things decide whether a crimp joint holds: full insertion of the fitting to the shoulder, and a ring crimped square and at the correct distance from the tube end. Check every joint with a go/no-go gauge — it takes seconds and it is the only way to prove the crimp before the wall closes.

Brass or plastic insert fittings

Plastic (poly) insert fittings resist aggressive water chemistry and cost less; brass gives a slightly larger bore and more strength at the fitting. Both are stocked, with contractor pricing at our Richmond Hill counter and delivery across the GTA.
