Drain & Tubular

Drain & Tubular Buying Guide

Everything below the fixture and in the floor — tubular waste, P-traps, floor and funnel drains, cleanouts, trench and linear drains, and the primers and solvent cements that go with them. MEKCO Supply stocks drainage products from MIFAB, WATTS, Lyncar and our 5M line.

Tubular, floor drains and trench drains

Tubular waste is the visible chrome or plastic assembly under a sink — traps, tailpieces, extensions and slip-joint fittings. Sizing is 1-1/4" for lavatories and 1-1/2" for kitchen sinks in most residential work.

Floor and funnel drains are selected by body material, outlet size and the load rating of the grate. Funnel drains give an air gap for indirect waste from equipment. Trench and linear drains are specified by load class for the traffic they will see — a grate rated for pedestrian use will not survive a loading dock.

Cleanouts need to be placed where a snake can actually reach the run, and the Ontario Building Code sets requirements for their spacing and accessibility.

Primer and cement

Solvent-weld joints are only as good as the prep. Use the primer and cement matched to the pipe material — ABS, PVC and transition cements are not interchangeable — and observe the set time before pressure testing.
