Hydronics
Hydronics Buying Guide
Hydronic heating components — circulators, mixing and zone controls, air and dirt separation, expansion control and system protection. MEKCO Supply stocks hydronic mechanical components and controls from Taco, Tekmar, CALEFFI, Calefactio and WATTS.
Getting a hydronic system to run quietly and efficiently
Most hydronic complaints — noise, uneven heat, short cycling — come down to three things: air, flow and control. Air separators and automatic air vents remove entrained air that would otherwise collect at high points and block circulation. Dirt separators and magnetic filters capture the ferrous debris that shortens circulator life, particularly on systems with older steel components.
Circulator selection is about matching the pump curve to the head loss of the loop, not about picking the biggest pump. Oversizing causes velocity noise and wastes energy; variable-speed and ECM circulators handle a wider range and reduce both problems.
Controls and zoning
Outdoor reset control adjusts supply water temperature to actual heating demand, which is the single most effective efficiency measure on a hydronic system. Zone valves and zone control panels let a single heat source serve areas with different schedules and heat loss. Tekmar and Taco controls are stocked alongside the circulators and valves they operate, with contractor pricing at our Richmond Hill counter.
