High Rise and Low Rise explained

HR and LR describe the fitting's pattern and the drainage service it is designed for. High Rise fittings are used in multi-storey stack applications where flow arrives with velocity from above and the fitting geometry has to control it. Low Rise fittings serve conventional lower-rise drainage.

The two are not interchangeable, and mixing them is one of the more common reasons a DWV inspection fails on a mid-rise project. Confirm which the drawings call for before ordering.

Getting the fitting right

Check the hub configuration before you buy. Spigot (SPG) ends slip into a hub; hub-by-hub fittings need pipe between them. Long-turn patterns keep flow moving on horizontal runs; short-turn patterns save space where framing is tight.

Solvent-weld joints need the surface primed and the cement matched to PVC — ABS and PVC cements are not interchangeable, and transition cement is required where the two materials meet. Cut square, deburr the end, and allow the full set time before testing.
