PVC SDR fittings from BOW Plumbing Group, for sewer and buried drainage applications.
SDR is the Standard Dimension Ratio — the pipe's outside diameter divided by its wall thickness. A lower SDR number means a thicker wall relative to diameter and a higher pressure or crush rating. SDR 28 and SDR 35 are the common series in gravity sewer work.
Because SDR sizing is based on outside diameter, SDR pipe and fittings are dimensionally different from Schedule 40 PVC of the same nominal size. They are not interchangeable, and a coupling that appears to fit may not seal. Confirm the series before you order, and use a proper transition fitting or a stepped flexible coupling where you change between them.
Bedding matters as much as the pipe. SDR sewer pipe is designed to deflect slightly and rely on properly compacted bedding for support, so granular bedding and haunching around the pipe are part of the installation, not an optional extra.
Solvent-weld joints need primer and PVC cement, cut square and deburred, with full set time before backfill or testing.
