Calefactio - SEP NPT

The Calefactio Calbalance NPT Hydraulic Separator is designed to hydraulically isolate the primary boiler circuit from the secondary distribution circuit in residential and commercial hydronic heating systems. Its painted steel body creates a low-pressure-loss zone that allows the boiler and system circulators to operate at independent flow rates without interfering with one another. Equipped with a Calvent automatic air vent, drain valve, thermometer port, and wall-mounting bracket, the Calbalance simplifies installation and system maintenance. Available with 1-inch through 2-inch FNPT connections, it is ideal for boilers, radiant heating, snow-melting systems, fan coils, and multi-temperature hydronic applications.

Usage

The Calefactio Calbalance is installed vertically between a boiler or other heat source and the secondary hydronic distribution system. The primary boiler pump circulates through one side of the separator, while secondary circulators independently supply radiant manifolds, fan coils, radiators, snow-melting circuits, or other heating zones through the opposite side. The low-velocity chamber prevents flow changes in one circuit from disrupting the other circuit, improving system stability and preventing circulator interaction. The automatic air vent releases collected air, while the bottom drain valve supports purging and maintenance. The unit must be sized according to the maximum entering flow rate.
